Stabroek News published a letter from one of its readers proposing Sir S Ramphal as President and others as Cabinet Ministers.
I am aware that it is not considered "nice" to speak ill of the dead or those in prominent positions, but sometimes the truth must be told.
We cannot forget that Mr Ramphal served in two Ministries in the Burnham Cabinet - as Attorney General and as Foreign Affairs Minister. As such, he was part of the rigging process in our country, which entrapped and held us frozen without our rights for 28 years.
In fact, Mr Ramphal, if I am correct, was Attorney General when these iniquitous laws were drafted to ensure the first rigging of the election in 1968.
Really, would he make a good President?

Former dictator, Burham, stole the East Indian Indentured Fund to build a monument , known as the National Cultural Centre. The (EIIF) was intended to pay for free passage for the labourers, who wanted to return to India after they completed their contract. Some returned to India but most of them remained, like my grandparents.

Sir Ramphal is going to be on a panel with Clive Thomas and another African man discussing problems of Guyana at the Commonwealth foreign office in London next month

Can you believe that? Ramphal will be there representing Guyanese Indians. Goodness!
